The Victorian state government has reported successful outcomes from its first Super Trade Mission to Indonesia, and other South East Asia countries, in June. As a result, the state’s exports to the region are projected to exceed $140 million over the next two years. Dr Denis Napthine, Premier of Victoria, who travelled with the mission, said the tour promoted Victoria as "Australia’s ‘business state’, and the gateway to trade in food, manufacturing and services with Asia."
The recently released South East Asia Super Trade Mission Initial Outcomes Report (pdf) highlights the reopening of the Victorian Government Business Office in Jakarta; a meeting with Indonesian Vice President, Dr Boediono; the announcement of the Victoria-Indonesia Infrastructure Partnership (with the University of Melbourne) and the Victoria-Indonesia Leadership Development Program (with Monash University); the expansion of the Hamer Scholarship program into Indonesia; the signing of a Letter of Intent with West Java province to work together to further develop each jurisdiction’s agricultural industries; and the Indonesian government committing to continuing conversations with Victoria to identify opportunities for collaboration in health and aged care projects.
Significant business outcomes reported include Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) establishing its first Australian office in Melbourne; Hatlar Group short-listed for a project bid for operations and maintenance of a waste treatment facility in Indonesia; Elenberg Fraser contracted to provide architectural and design services for the M3 Hotel Project in Jakarta; a visit from the Mandiri Bank to Victoria by five of its senior executives to continue dialogue on pooling expertise and capability transfer for financial services sectors; Accurate Profile contracted to supply rocker, window and seating channel components to GM Indonesia; and numerous on-going negotiations within the automotive, agriculture, medical, education and tourism sectors.
