THE MISSION of the Indonesia Australia Report is to highlight bilateral links between Australia and Indonesia, particularly the 125 years of Australian business experience in Indonesia.
The on-line Report and its associated social media grew from marketing and communications established in 1981 by Geoffrey Gold to promote closer relations between Australia and South East Asia.
Early initiatives in Australia included Asia-focused seminars for the Australian Marketing Institute; publishing of Business Malaysia for the Australia Malaysia Business Council; the launch of Asia/Pacific Electrical World and the AsiaPacific Journal of Mining and the research and publishing of Asian Media Study (English-language newspapers and business magazines of East and South East Asia) for Melbourne's David Syme International Business Centre.
In 1996 Gold entered into a strategic alliance with the Australian Trade Commission in Indonesia to publish the Directory of Australian Businesses in Indonesia The public-private collaboration ensured the annual publication of the directory until 2003 when security issues in Indonesia required its suspension.

In 2000 the Queensland government appointed Gold as the marketing and communications manager for the state's ice-breaking business mission to Indonesia led by its premier, Peter Beattie. Gold's work on behalf of Australian states expanded to include marketing, communications and publicity for Victoria, multiple market entry programs for Western Australia and sports development initiatives for Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
